At minimum Pico-8 opens up a lot of arcadey web games. Unity supports browser export, Rust language has been used for a few web games, plus whatever else someone can get working in Emscripten (which is actually a lot considering that also includes emulators).Įdit: I can't understate how many different options there are for web game development now, there's the standard javascript stuff but there's also a lot of game engines and programming languages that export to js/wasm through emscripten.īrowser plugins no longer really need to exist, because if someone's stubborn enough they'll take their game engine and make it run in the browser.Įdit: Forgot about the hobbyist game systems like Pico 8, tic-80, and wasm4 that all run in the browser. Otherwise web games still exist, they just no longer use flash and they're not nearly as popular now that mobile games exist. Still cool, and still had some connections to the movie, but the impact was overall lesser.įlash games aren't really a thing with the exception of any game you can get running in Ruffle or AwayFL, or by using something like supernova or an archival program like flashpoint. There were actually two of them, but the latter is a bit lesser in design. Imagine it: Kids talking about Bionicle the same way they would Dragonball, and all of it on a flash game. This game singlehandedly made Bionicle not just a line of toys, it made them a show with lore and a following. (They even casually connected it to an otherwise forgettable gameboy color game). AND after they finished it, the movie continue from the exact point this flash game ended AND the ending and earlier scenes would make constant references to later sets (The Bohrok) hyping people up for them. And it was all THE primary way to showcase the canon, it would be updated once in a while and everyone would come back to it and continue from where they left off to continue talking about the new stuff that happensed. It would introduce you to the world of Bionicle, have you go on a big adventure in each of the six cities and then culminate with you doing a sidestory protecting the toas while they go to hell and fight Makuta - all of it with over one hour of cinematics with some of them absurdly cool, such as Kopaka fighting the beast in the ice. The point and click RPG was probably the peak of flash gaming storytelling. It was amazing to watch a bunch of kids do "controlled mashing" one at a time trying to out-do each other each jump. You'd choose which tricks you wanted to do form a list and then you'd have to do them mid-air by pressing buttons in order. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
